Ragin' Cajuns To Host South Alabama On Thursday

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team approaches the tail end of the Sun Belt Conference schedule when it hosts South Alabama on Thursday at the Cajundome.
 
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Live video and live statistics are available on RaginCajuns.com. The game is being broadcast in the Lafayette area on ESPN 1420-AM and worldwide courtesy of Radio Pup.
 
Louisiana (12-8, 6-5 SBC), which is coming off a 70-64 win at Georgia State on Saturday, currently sits in a tie for fifth place with Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Conference.
 
The Cajuns are a half game back of Texas State for the fourth spot and the final bye that is given for the Sun Belt Conference tournament in March.
 
South Alabama (7-14, 2-8 SBC) is in the midst of a seven game losing streak and dropped a 75-71 decision at Troy on Saturday.
 
Louisiana is led in scoring by senior guard Jaylyn Gordon (18.5 ppg). Gordon leads the Sun Belt Conference in points per game, three-point field goals made per game (2.9) and minutes played per game (38.5).

Junior Simone Fields is sixth in the league in scoring (14.9 ppg) and third in field goal percentage (.551). Freshman Jasmine Thomas (10.4 ppg), junior Troi Swain (8.8 ppg), junior Nekia Jones (5.9 ppg) and senior Gabby Alexander (5.3 ppg) are all key contributors for the Cajuns.

Louisiana is averaging 69 points per game while holding its opponents to 68 points. As a team, the Cajuns enter Thursday's contest shooting 41.1% (508-for-1236) from the floor and 32% (107-for-334) from the three-point line.

South Alabama is led in scoring by junior center Chyna Ellis (11.5 ppg). Ellis is fifth in the league in rebounds per game (7.6). Senior Colby Davis (9.4 ppg) and sophomore Genesis Perrymond (7.2 ppg) also lead the team in scoring.

The Jaguars are averaging 52.3 points per game while allowing their opponents 59.9 points per game. As a team, they are shooting 33.6% (390-for-1162) from the floor and 26.3% (103-391) from the three-point line.

South Alabama leads the all-time series with Louisiana 36-14, dating back to 1987. However, the Cajuns have won four of the past six contests with the Jaguars. In the most recent meeting, South Alabama defeated Louisiana 68-59 on Feb. 27, 2016 in Mobile, Ala.

Next up, Louisiana will host Troy in the Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
