HUNTSVILLE, Texas. – The 13th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team continues its eight-game road swing this weekend as the squad heads to No. 18 Sam Houston State for a three-game, non-conference series at Don Sanders Stadium.
First game of the series is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. before closing out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Friday's contest will be aired live on ESPN3.com. Fans can listen to all three contests on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM with Dan McDonald and Jeff Schneider calling the action. Live stats are available on RaginCauns.com.
The Cajuns (1-2) will call upon junior left-hander Gunner Leger (0-1, 4.50 ERA) to take the mound on Friday. Leger will matchup against senior right-hander Heath Donica (1-0, 0.00 ERA) for SHSU (2-2). Donica threw a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts against Nevada to open the season a week ago.
Sophomore right-hander Nick Lee (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to make the start on Saturday. Lee posted the Ragin' Cajuns first quality start of the season tossing six shutout innings against Hofstra. The Bearkats will counter with left-hander Seth Ballew (0-0, 3.60 ERA).
Sunday's contest will feature junior right-hander Evan Guillory (0-0, 0.00) from Louisiana against freshman right-hander Hayden Wesneski (1-0, 3.18 ERA).
Offensively, senior Alex Pinero has a team-best .375 average (3-for-8) with two doubles and two RBI. Brenn Conrad leads the team with four hits through three contests.
The Ragin' Cajuns hold a 14-3 all-time series edge over Sam Houston State after sweeping the Bearkats in a three-game series to start the 2016 season.
Louisiana is 11-2 against the Bearkats since head coach Tony Robichaux took the helm in 1995. The Cajuns lost their only contest in Huntsville, Texas dropping a 6-5 decision on Feb. 16, 2015.
Sam Houston State is coming off of a 7-2 defeat to Texas at home on Wednesday night. The Bearkats took two of three games in their season opening series against Nevada.
Robie Rojas paces the squad hitting .462 (6-for-13) through four games. Bryce Johnson and Andrew Fregia also have six hits on the young season, while seven SHSU hitters have driven in a least one run so far this year.
Following the series with Sam Houston State, Louisiana wraps up its eight-game road trip with a 6 p.m. contest at Northwestern State on Tuesday.
