HAMMOND, La. – Louisiana's women's tennis team played two matches on Saturday, and split them winning their first dual match against Alcorn State 4-1, before losing to McNeese, 4-1, on the second day of the 2017 George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational.

Saturday's results mean the Ragin' Cajuns will face Nicholls in the fifth-place match on Sunday, Nov. 5 at noon and the Cajuns have gone 1-2 over the first two days of the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Alcorn State Singles): Louisiana took all three singles matches played in the dual match, to give them three points in the match.

Senior Kelly Drew got the Cajuns off to a strong start with a straight set win over Alcorn's Ammarah Tim 7-5, 6-3.  The Cajuns senior fought off a charge in the first set, and she easily handled the second set to take the match,

Freshman Kim Yatribi played the only three-set match between the two teams and she came away with the victory against Alessandra Maganuco 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.  Yatribi won her first set easily, but she dropped the second set to force the 10 point third set tiebreaker.

Maganuco put up a fight, but in the end Yatribi dug deep to find what she needed to pull away and take the set, giving her the win and the Cajuns second win of the match.

Cajuns senior Elena Sava, playing in her first singles match of the fall, won her match in straight sets against Natalia Parchowska, 7-5, 6-0.  The first set was a bit of a fight but Sava was determined to hold on for the set win, and she did that.

In the second set Sava never let her opponent get into the set, as she swept all six points to take the set 6-0, and get her first victory of the fall.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Alcorn State Doubles): The Cajuns split the doubles with Alcorn State to gain one additional point to give them four in the match.

Senior Abby Johnson and freshman Morgan Forshag won their match against the pairing of Klavdija Bukovec and Veronika Pytlikova 6-2, 6-0.  The first and second set were controlled from start to finish by the Cajuns duo as the win was Johnson's second doubles win of the weekend having won with Drew in the previous day's match.

Cajuns freshman Floriane Picaut and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia lost their match in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 to Bianca Birkenstock and Anastasia Vaganova.  The Cajuns duo took the first set 6-4, but the Alcorn State pairing came back strong to force a third set 10-point breaker.

It was a competitive set and both pairs went back and forth not wanting to give up any ground.  But as the set came to an end, the Alcorn State duo pulled away getting the last few points to come away with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (McNeese Singles): Louisiana's sole point in the dual match came in the singles portion of the competition.

Garica took on Sofia San Jose Moreno and she came storming back after losing the first set to take the final two sets and the win 5-7, 6-4, 10-0 for a three-set victory.

After losing the first set, Garcia wouldn't let the match end with her losing instead she dug deep to fight back in the second set and she took that set 6-4 to set up the 10 point third set tiebreaker.

In that break, Garcia never once let Moreno even score a point taking all 10 points in the breaker to come away with the win, which would be the only win the Cajuns got against McNeese.

Picaut fell in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to Giovanna Fioretti and Johnson fell in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to Marija Mastilovic to wrap up the singles portion of the dual match between Louisiana and McNeese.

HOW IT HAPPENED (McNeese Doubles): In doubles the Cajuns lost both matches they played to wrap up their dual match against McNeese.

Sava and sophomore Milena Achlamov lost their match against pairing of Sarah Jurakova and Hannah Brett 6-1, 7-5.  While the Cajuns pairing of Drew and freshman Dana Radovanovic fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to Phonexay Chitdara and Charoline Erlandsson to finish up the doubles section of the match against McNeese.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana will return to the court tomorrow, Sunday Nov. 5, to take on Nicholls in the fifth-place match starting at noon.  The match will take place at the Oak Knoll Country Club.
