Cajuns Head To The Plains To Compete At Tiger Classic

Cajuns join Auburn in 25-team event
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team returns to action beginning Friday when it travels to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the 2016 Auburn Tiger Track Classic Hutsell-Rosen Track.

The two-day meet will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday with the men's hammer throw with the men's 5,000-meter run slated for 8:10 p.m. Field events on Saturday will begin at 10:30 a.m. with running events scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.

Louisiana is one of 25 schools entered in the meet that includes host Auburn along with Sun Belt Conference schools Georgia State, South Alabama and Troy. Also competing in the two-day event is Alabama State, Alabama-Huntsville, Boston University, Cincinnati, Clemson, Columbus State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Memphis, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Northeastern, Ole Miss, Samford, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, UAB, UNC-Asheville, Vanderbilt and Western Carolina.

A pair of Ragin' Cajuns – freshman Kyle Baudoin (men's pole vault) and sophomore Tyler Hughes (men's 110-meter hurdles) – will each compete after posting personal-best times last week at the Texas Relays.

Baudoin, ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference, recorded the fourth-best mark in school history as he cleared the bar at 17 feet, 5 inches. Hughes, rated No. 5 in the Sun Belt Conference, recorded a personal-best time of 14.36 to finish 12th overall.

Kayla Thompson (10th, 200-meters) and Hannah Siegmund (7th, 400-meters) are each ranked in the top 10 among Sun Belt Conference runners and will be joined in action by Alexandra Harrell (6th, high jump), Madison Meche (3rd, javelin) and Chelcie Sonnier (5th, javelin)

In men's competition, Morgan Cormier will compete in the 400-meter hurdles where he is ranked third among SBC athletes while Jacob Chicola (3,000-meter steeplechase) is ranked sixth for the Ragin' Cajuns.

Newcomer Franz Beyer has posted the SBC's second-best mark (6-11) in the high jump this spring for the Ragin' Cajuns with Josh McDaniel (8th, pole vault), Richard Delphin (8th, discus; 10th, hammer throw), Hunter Stelly (4th, javelin) and Josh Cecil (9th, javelin) scheduled to compete.
