Cajuns Set To Face Arkansas State On The Road

Jonesboro, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team seeks its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season on Saturday when it faces Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.

Louisiana (6-4), which is coming off a 64-60 defeat at the hands of the Little Rock on Thursday evening, faces a much different Arkansas State team than it has in years past.

Arkansas State (3-10) graduated its entire starting five from last season and has seven freshmen on this year's squad. The Red Wolves are coming off a 71-56 win over ULM on Thursday.

Louisiana is led in scoring by senior guard Jaylyn Gordon (18.7 ppg). Gordon leads the Sun Belt Conference in points per game, three-point field goals made per game (2.6) and minutes played per game (39.3).

Junior Simone Fields is fourth in the league in scoring (15.3 ppg). Fields is first in the SBC in field goal percentage (.564) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.5).

Freshman Jasmine Thomas (9.1 ppg), junior Troi Swain (8.7 ppg), senior Gabby Alexander (6.5 ppg), junior Nekia Jones (5.4 ppg) and junior Jodi Quinn (5.0 ppg) all have seen significant playing time for the Cajuns.

Arkansas State is led by freshman guard Jada Ford, who is averaging 12.5 points per game. Senior Dominique Oliver (10.6 ppg) and junior Akasha Westbrook (10.1 ppg) also lead the Red Wolves in scoring.

The Red Wolves lead the all-time series with the Cajuns 50-14 and have won five of the last six contests. Arkansas State defeated Louisiana 74-62 in the last meeting, which was held on Feb. 11, 2016 in Lafayette.
