Cajuns Fall To Little Rock In SBC Opener, 64-60

Little Rock, Ark. – Louisiana held a lead over Little Rock for the first three quarters, but was unable to hold on as the Trojans defeated the Cajuns 64-60 on Thursday evening at the Jack Stephens Center.
 
Louisiana (6-4) jumped out to an early 8-2 lead when Gabby Alexander connected on a jumper with 4:33 left in the first quarter.
 
Little Rock (7-6) cut the lead to 11-6 when Kaitlyn Pratt made two free throws with 2:50 remaining in the period.
 
The Cajuns then went on an 11-1 run to close out the quarter and a Jasmine Thomas layup at the buzzer gave Louisiana a 22-7 lead at the end of the first frame.
 
Louisiana led 25-15 when Simone Fields made a layup with 4:47 left in the second quarter.
 
The Trojans trimmed the lead to 29-24 at halftime after Sharde' Collins knocked down a three-pointer with 29 seconds to go in the period.
 
Jaylyn Gordon made a layup to give the Cajuns a 37-30 lead with 4:46 left in the third quarter.
 
Little Rock cut the lead to 46-42 at the end of the third period when Pratt made two free throws with 0.2 seconds remaining in the quarter.
 
The Trojans had their first lead of the game at 49-46 when Pratt made a layup while being fouled and converted on the free throw with 8:16 left in the game.
 
The game was tied 51-51 when Thomas made a layup with 5:01 to go in the game. The teams traded baskets for the next three minutes.
 
Fields converted on a layup to trim the Little Rock lead to 57-55 with 1:11 remaining in the contest.
 
The Trojans led 61-55 with 15 seconds left after Kyra Collier knocked down two free throws.
 
Alexander made a layup while being fouled and sunk the free throw with five seconds left to cut the lead to 62-60.
 
Little Rock made the final two free throws and came up with a defensive stop to seal the game.
 
Louisiana was led by Thomas with 16 points while Gordon had 14 for the Cajuns.
 
Little Rock was led by Collins with 22 points while Collier had 16 for the Trojans.
 
Louisiana travels to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2:30 p.m. The Cajuns then will host ULM on Saturday, Jan. 7 in a 5 p.m. game at the Cajundome.
