Ragin' Cajuns Open Indoor Season At LSU Purple Tiger

Hughes, Moreau among returning SBC event champs for Cajuns

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will officially open their 2016 indoor season on Friday when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete in the Purple Tiger Invitational at Carl Maddox Field House on the LSU campus.
 
The men's and women's weight throws get the afternoon session underway at 2:30 p.m., followed by the first preliminary races on the track beginning at 3:30 p.m. The first event finals on the track are scheduled to run at 4:50 p.m. as the evening session will continue through the distance medley relays at 9:35 p.m.

Looking to build off a solid performance at last year's Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Ragin' Cajuns return several individual champions including women's pentathlon champion Kaitlyn Moreau and men's 60-meter hurdles champion Tyler Hughes.
 
All-conference performers Taylor Walker (women's long jump), Jasmin Fuselier (women's pentathlon) Dionte Heath (men's high jump), Alexandra Harrell (women's high jump), Dionte Heath (men's high jump) and Matt Rice (men's 1-mile run) are among a key group of returning letterwinners for head coach Lon Badeaux.
 
The meet is the first of six indoor meets for the Ragin' Cajuns this season with the Sun Belt Conference Championships scheduled for Feb. 22-23 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.
 
Louisiana will be joined in the season-opening meet by host LSU and SEC member Mississippi State. The meet also features in-state schools Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Tulane. Rounding out the field are Hinds (Miss.) Community College, Meridian (Miss.) Community College, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Texas Southern.
