LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team opens a five-game week on Tuesday as the Cajuns host No. 22 Houston in a 6 p.m. contest at M.L. "Tigue"  Moore Field.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns (16-13, 8-6 Sun Belt) continue mid-week action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as the squad heads east on I-10 to face Southern at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge, La.
 
Both games can be heard live on ESPN 1420-AM with Jay Walker making the call. Tuesdays contest will be aired live on myKALF-TV with Don Allen and Dan McDonald on the broadcast, while Wednesday's game with Southern can be seen on Cox Sports Television (CST) with Lyn Rollins and Ronnie Rantz calling the action.
 
Louisiana is coming off of a series loss to Georgia Southern dropping the first two games 2-1 and 7-4 before picking up a 5-1 victory in the series finale.
 
The Cajuns are hitting .275 as a team led by junior shortstop Blake Trahan who has a .375 average and is on a 20-game hit streak. Junior second baseman Stefan Trosclair has raised his average from .269 to .354 in the last two weeks after going 7-for-13 with a double, three home runs and drove in four last week.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff comes into the week with a 3.68 ERA in 266.2 innings having struck out 219 and walked 87. 
 
Houston leads the all-time series with the Cajuns 37-12-1. The home team has won the last eight games in the series.
 
Louisiana holds a 49-23-1 lead in the all-time series with the Jaguars. The Ragin' Cajuns are 11-2 against Southern under the direction of head coach Tony Robichaux.
 
The Cougars (21-11, 2-1 AAC) have lost two straight after taking the opening game of the series at Memphis. Houston is currently on an eight-game road trip having gone 3-4 through seven games away from Cougar Field.
 
Chris Iriart leads a Cougar squad that is hitting .276 on the year with 40 doubles, 12 triples and 23 home runs. Iriart is batting .376 with nine doubles, two triples and a league best 10 home runs with 23 RBI.
 
The Jaguars (10-15, 8-6 SWAC) have won seven straight contests including six conference games sweeping both Grambling State and Prairie View A&M.
 
Southern is hitting .262 as a team led by Tyler Kirksey who has a .352 average with four doubles, four triples, two home runs and 11 RBI.
 
Following the two mid-week games, the Ragin' Cajuns will host Jackson State in a three-game non-conference series at the "Tigue" starting Friday at 6 p.m.
