LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team opens a five-game week on Tuesday as the Cajuns travel to in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana for a 6 p.m. contest at Alumni Field in Hammond, La.

Following the matchup with the Lions, the Ragin' Cajuns play host to Southern in a mid-week game at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Both contests can be heard live on ESPN 1420-AM with Jay Walker making the call. Tuesday's game at Southeastern La. will be broadcast on Cox Sports Television (CST) as Lyn Rollins will call the action and Ronnie Rantz will add color with Kati Morse on the sidelines.

Louisiana (23-15, 10-7 Sun Belt) has won eight of its last ten games after taking two of three over the weekend at Texas State. The Cajuns won the series opener 11-3 before dropping the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday 10-4. The squad bounced back in the rubber match to run rule the Bobcats 13-3 on Sunday.

The Ragin' Cajuns will call on a couple of junior arms to take the mound in the mid-week with right-hander Will Bacon starting against the Lions and right-hander Eric Carter taking the mound versus Southern. Bacon is making his second start of the year and has a 1-1 record with a 3.76 ERA, while Carter is 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA and posted a career-best 11 strikeouts in his last outing against the Jaguars.

Offensively, the Cajuns are hitting .385, which ranks third in the Sun Belt. Blake Trahan leads the team with a .370 average posting 54 hits, 12 doubles and 20 RBI. Stefan Trosclair has a team-high nine home runs and 28 RBI and carries an eight-game hit streak into the week.

Louisiana holds a 61-47 series edge against Southeastern Louisiana despite falling 5-3 to the Lions last week at home. The Cajuns are 17-12 against SLU with head coach Tony Robichaux at the helm.

The Ragin' Cajuns also own a 50-23-1 lead in the all-time series with Southern after picking up a 14-1 victory over the Jaguars earlier this month.

Southeastern Louisiana (30-11, 14-4 Southland) has won four straight games with the win at the "Tigue" and a home sweep of McNeese Sate over the weekend in conference play. The Lions currently hold the best record in the Southland Conference and boast both the leagues top average and scoring offense.

As a team, Southeastern is hitting .302 while averaging 6.6 runs per game. Jacob Seward paces the Lions offensive attack hitting .346 with 53 hits and 23 RBI. Daniel Midyett leads the team with seven home runs and 36 RBI and is batting .336 in 40 games.

The Lions will start right-hander Pat Cashman. Cashman is 3-3 with a 3.97 ERA and made the start last week against the Cajuns allowing two runs on nine hits in six innings of work.

Southern (13-18, 10-6 SWAC) has won three straight coming into the week. The Jaguars took both games of a rain-shortened series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff 4-3 and 14-9. Southern has yet to name a starter for Wednesday's contest.

The Jaguars are batting .268 as a team led by D.J. Wallace who is hitting .344 with six doubles, three triples, five home runs and 23 RBI. Taylor Kirksey is second on the squad with a .323 average to go with two homers and 15 RBI.

After the two mid-week contests, the Cajuns close out the five-game week with a three-game conference series against UT Arlington at the "Tigue". The opening game of the series is slated for 6 p.m. Friday.
