Cajuns Baseball Carries Six-Game Win Streak Into Southeastern Louisiana Contest

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team will put its six-game win streak on the line Tuesday at 6 p.m. as the Cajuns host in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The game will be broadcast live on myKLAF-TV with Dan McDonald and Kevin Cantrelle making the call. Fans can also catch the game on ESPN 1420-AM with Jay Walker providing play-by-play. Live stats and a live video feed are available on RaginCajuns.com.

The Ragin' Cajuns are teaming up with "Strike Out Autism" for the contest as a local youth affected by autism will meet both squads and throw out the first pitch. Also members of both teams will wear wristbands to support the awareness of autism.

Louisiana (21-13, 8-6 Sun Belt) picked up a series sweep of Jackson State over the weekend winning the opening game 7-6 in 11 innings before claiming the next two games 15-2 and 7-2. The Ragin' Cajuns boast the third rated offense in the Sun Belt with a .281 average and the league's top pitching staff with a 3.45 ERA.

Right-hander Eric Carter will make his second start of the season for Louisiana against the Lions. Carter is coming off of his first career win at Southern where he struck out a team-high 11 over seven innings allowing just one run on five hits.

Junior Blake Trahan continues to pace the offense hitting .366 with 11 doubles and 20 RBI, while Stefan Trosclair has seen his average swell to .350 with nine doubles and a team-best six home runs to go with 20 RBI.

Tyler Girouard was the Ragin' Cajuns hot hand at the plate last week as the senior hit .579 (11-for-19) with five doubles and three runs driven in. Girouard is batting .342 on the year with 10 doubles and 15 RBI.

The Cajuns hold a 61-46 series edge against the Lions having won the last four meetings. Louisiana is 17-11 against SLU with head coach Tony Robichaux at the helm. The Ragin' Cajuns won both meetings a year ago with a 6-5 comeback victory in Hammond on April 29 and a 10-8 win at the "Tigue" the next day.

Southeastern Louisiana (26-11, 11-4 Southland) lost two of three over the weekend at Utah falling 14-5 and 4-3 after taking the series opener 3-2 against the Utes. The Lions had won four straight contests prior to the two losses and are 2-1 against opponents from the Sun Belt.

Pat Cashman gets the nod for SLU on the mound. Cashman is 3-3 with a 4.18 ERA in nine appearances including five starts.

The Lions are hitting .300 as a team led by Kevin Carr with a .369 average, 10 doubles and 22 RBI. Southeastern Louisiana has only hit 12 home runs on the season with Daniel Midyett posting half of the total with six on the year hitting .336 with a team-best 32 RBI.

Following the contest with the Lions, the Cajuns return to Sun Belt Conference play facing Texas State in a three-game series in San Marcos, Texas from April 17-19.
