DURHAM, N.C. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was ranked 47th in a recent poll released by Baseball America ranking the top 50 programs of the 64-Team Field Era in college baseball.

The poll takes nine areas of success into consideration including overall winning percentage, regional appearances, super regional appearances, college world series appearances, national titles, postseason appearances prior to 1999, all-Americans, draft picks in the top 10 rounds, and players who have played in the MLB.

"It's an honor and a privilege to have our program recognized in this poll," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "To have your program in the top 50 when there are over 300 programs that play college baseball is a significant accomplishment. When you take a look at the parameters they are judging programs on, they are some pretty stiff parameters that judge you on a school's postseason success. I give a lot of credit to the past coaches and past players who did a lot to help build this program. It certainly wasn't built over night."

"I'm glad to see our name in a respected publication like Baseball America. It's good for recruiting and it's baseball paying back all of the work put in by our coaches and athletes."

The Cajuns have been to eight regionals, three super regionals and the 2000 College World Series since 1999. Louisiana has also produced five Baseball America All-Americans and 15 top MLB draft picks in the first 10 rounds.

The Ragin' Cajuns are the only team from the Sun Belt Conference listed in the top 50 and are one of 15 mid-major programs represented with only four of those programs coming from the Southeast region of the country.

"One thing that I am proud of, is that I was able to get to 1,000 wins at two mid-majors," Robichaux said. "You have to fight. You are the underdog all the time, trying to get the wins and get the program built up. A lot of the teams ahead of you have you in budget and facilities, yet we are in there with them. Credit to that goes to the players and coaches who didn't let that influence them when they came here. They wanted to play baseball the Ragin' Cajuns way and its because of that, that we are ranked in the top 50 and have reached the accomplishments that we have."

In the last two years, the Cajuns have been to the regionals twice, a super regional, had two players drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft and had three Baseball America All-Americans.
