LAFAYETTE, La. – The defending Sun Belt Champion Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to open the 2015 home slate on Friday at 6 p.m. as the squad faces Stony Brook in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (2-2) and Seawolves (1-2) will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. as Sunday's contest was moved due to impending weather. All three games can be heard live on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM. The first game of the doubleheader on Saturday can be seen live on myKLAF-TV with Don Allen and Kevin Cantrelle on the broadcast.
Â
The Cajuns head into the weekend having picked up a 7-3 victory over Northwestern State on Wednesday to even their record after going 1-2 on the road at UTSA to open the season.
Â
Louisiana will have a slight shakeup in the rotation this weekend with freshman Evan Guillory sliding into the Friday night spot, while Chris Charpentier will take the bump for the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday. Guillory picked up his first career victory limiting UTSA to one unearned run in five innings and struck out seven.
Â
Senior Greg Milhorn is slated to make the start in the second game of the doubleheader.
Â
Offensively, the Ragin' Cajuns have posted double-digit hits in all four games this season. Senior Greg Davis leads the way with eight hits but Joe Robbins paces the squad with eight RBI and two home runs.
Â
The Cajuns hold a 3-0 edge in the all-time series with Stony Brook having swept the Seawolves in a three-game series in 2004.
Â
Stony Brook comes into the series having dropped its opening series at Nicholls State despite winning the opening game.
Â
The Seawolves are slated go with the rotation of left-handers Tyler Honahan and Dan Zamora along with right-hander Tim Knesnik. Honahan threw six scoreless innings in a victory against the Colonels. He was 7-2 in 15Â games with a 2.89 ERA a year ago.
Â
Cole Peragine led Stony Brook attack at the dish last weekend driving in two of the Seawolves seven runs in the series. Peragine hit .287 a year ago with six doubles, four triples, a home run and drove in 36.
Â
Stony Brook is without its top two hitters from last year's squad having to replace 92 RBI and 10 home runs.
Â
Following the series with Stony Brook, the Ragin' Cajuns will face McNeese State in a mid-week contest on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the "Tigue" before heading to Alabama for a three-game series next weekend.
