Cajuns Head West To Compete In McNeese Cowboy Stampede

Women's race to begin at 8:45 a.m.; men's race at 9:30 a.m.
LAFAYETTE – Following an impressive second-place finish at the 40th annual Azalea City Classic, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team will return to action on Saturday when it heads west to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese Cowboy Stampede at the Ward 3 Multisports Complex.

The women's 5K race will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the men's 4-mile race beginning at 9:30. Louisiana will be one of 11 schools entered in the meet joining host McNeese State, LSU, Loyola, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southern, Southern-New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulane and Xavier.

In their last meet on Sept. 12, the Ragin' Cajuns finished second overall among six schools in the men's 8K race behind South Alabama and was narrowly edged by team champion UAB in the seven-team women's 6K event.

Ashley Irwin earned her first career individual title for the Ragin' Cajuns at the Azalea City Classic after posting a winning time of 20:36.39 while being named the Sun Belt Conference Female Runner of the Week. In the Ragin' Cajuns season-opening race at the McNeese Relays on Aug. 29, Irwin teamed with Danielle Castaldi for a third-place finish.

Anna Katherine Devitt and freshman Courtney Broussard combined for a fourth-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns at the McNeese Relays with Claire Hodges and Courtney Musgrove finishing seventh. On the men's side, Matthew Rice and Bryce Robinson combined to finish sixth overall with Beau Robinson and Corbett Ourso placing eighth.

Bryce Robinson earned a top-5 finish at the Azalea City Classic, finishing fifth overall with a time of 25:07.50. Beau Robinson placed sixth for the Ragin' Cajuns in 25:11.49 with Rice placing 11th (25:48.46), Logan Pearce 17th (26:16.05) and freshman Logan LaGarde 19th (26:47.74).
