Louisiana Women’s Tennis Drops Close Match To Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped its fifth straight contest falling in a hard-fought 4-3 decision to in-state foe Nicholls State on Wednesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
The Colonels (11-6) claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Marie Aubert and Kateryna Nakonechna clinched the point with an 8-4 victory over Alexandra Way and Julie Cremers at the No. 3 position.
After a singles win on court five by NSU made the score 2-0, Melissa Burckhartt picked up the first point of the afternoon for the Cajuns (6-15) defeating Kateryna Nakonechna 6-1, 7-6 at the No. 3 position.
Aubert pulled Nicholls State within a point from clinching topping Nicole Breaux, 6-2, 7-6, on court two.
Louisiana answered taking the next two points of the match as Cremers claimed a three set victory against Klara Skopac on court four, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Way also won on line six defeating Emma Kranendonk, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
102nd-ranked Stephanie Barnett closed out the match on court one for the Colonels winning a grueling 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 decision against Nelo Phiri.
The Ragin' Cajuns close out the regular season and home slate on Sunday at 2 p.m. as they host Southern Miss at Cajun Courts. Following the match with the Golden Eagles, Louisiana will head to New Orleans, La. from April 17-20 for the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
