Cajuns Baseball Wins Ninth Straight Series With 11-8 Over Troy

TROY, Ala. – The second-ranked Louisiana baseball team won its ninth straight series as the Cajuns fended off Troy for an 11-8 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Riddle-Pace Field.
 
The win moves the Ragin' Cajuns to 29-3 on the year and 10-1 in the Sun Belt. The 29-3 mark ties the best start in school history tying the 2000 CWS squad.
 
Louisiana had 10 players post a hit despite being tied at 12-all in the game with the Trojans (16-15, 4-6 Sun Belt). Caleb Adams and Jace Conrad each had two hits as Adams extended his streak of reaching base to 26 games, while Conrad has now reached in 22 games and has a 16-game hit streak.
 
Senior Ryan Wilson increased his record to 4-0 on the year throwing 5.1 scoreless innings and scattered four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
 
Troy starter Shane McCain was handed his third loss of the season after surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 7.1 innings. McCain had nine strikeouts and three walks in the game.
 
Adams put the Cajuns in front 1-0 in the top of the second leading off the inning with a solo blast over the fence in right field for his sixth home run of the year.
 
Louisiana added two more runs in the top of the fourth on a double off of the centerfield wall by Evan Powell that scored Dylan Butler and Conrad. Butler walked to lead off the inning and then moved to third on a double by Conrad.
 
In the top of the seventh, Ryan Leonards sent solo homer to left to increase the Ragin' Cajuns advantage to 4-0.
 
The Cajuns exploded for seven runs in the top of the eighth on six hits and two Troy errors to take an 11-0 lead. A Kyle Clement two-run double highlighted the scoring, while Seth Harrsion's sac fly to center drove in the what turned out the be the winning run earlier in the inning.
 
The Trojans got back into the contest in the bottom half of the eighth scoring eight runs on six hits and a Cajuns error to cut the Louisiana lead to three runs. A pair of two-run home runs by Matthew Howard and Justin Hancock highlighted the scoring.
 
Reagn Bazar came on in the bottom of the eighth and got four straight outs including a strikeout to pick up his fifth save of the season.
