Cajuns Men’s Tennis To Close Out Season On The Road

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is set to close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of road matches at Southern Miss and New Orleans.
The Cajuns (16-4) open the weekend against the Golden Eagles on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss. before heading to New Orleans, La. to face the Privateers on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the regular season finale.
Louisiana is currently on a six-match win steak heading into the road swing having defeated UTPA 6-1 last time out.
The Ragin' Cajuns are 6-2 away from Cajun Courts this season with both losses coming to teams ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Sophomore Hunter Johnson paces the squad in singles with a 12-0 record this spring, while Jake Wynan is second on the squad with 11 wins.
In doubles, the duo of Rick de Groot and Wynan broke into the national rankings this week claiming the No. 76 spot with a 9-3 record.
Southern Miss (11-9) has won two in a row defeating Alcorn State and UTSA at home. Chao-Yu Huang has won four straight decisions and leads the squad with a 14-5 record in singles play this year.
UNO (6-7) picked up a 4-3 victory against Lamar in its last outing as the Privateers have won two of their last three matches. Chris Appelgren has a team-best seven singles wins for New Orleans.
After the two road matches, the Cajuns will head back to New Orleans next week for the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships from April 18-20.
