Cajuns Men’s Tennis Claims Seventh Straight Win At USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The 63rd-ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team recorded its seventh straight win on Saturday defeating Southern Miss on the road 5-2 at the USM Tennis Courts.

With the win, Louisiana moves to 17-4 this season and 7-2 on the road. The 17 wins is the most in a season under head coach Mark Jeffrey.

The Cajuns picked up the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. After Carl Alberton and Hunter Johnson teamed up to win at the No. 3 position, the 76th-ranked team of Jake Wynan and Rick de Groot defeated Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar, 8-6, on line one.

Chao-Yu Huang tied the match for the Golden Eagles (11-10) in singles winning against Damian Farinola on court four, 6-2, 6-3.

The Ragin' Cajuns went on to win the next four points to claim the match against USM.

Following a win on court six by Carl Alberton, Wynan pulled Louisiana a point away from clinching besting Alex Doleac at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

On court three, de Groot clinched the match defeating Vasco Valverde in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Johnson added the Cajuns final point of the match coming from behind to take down Juan Escobar at line five for his 13th win of the spring, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-1.

The Cajuns close out the regular season tomorrow at 11 a.m. as they face New Orleans on the road. Following the contest with the Privateers, Louisiana will head back to New Orleans, La. on April 18-20 for the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships.
