LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team opens a three-match homestand on Friday hosting Stephen F. Austin in a 2 p.m. match at Cajun Courts. The Cajuns (4-7) are slated to face UTPA on Sunday at 2 p.m. before closing out the home swing against No. 68 North Florida on Monday at 2 p.m.
Louisiana is coming off of a 7-0 loss at 62nd ranked College of Charleston. The Cajuns are 2-2 at Cajun Courts this season. Sophomore Juliette Clement leads the team with five victories in singles competition.
"We will be tested this weekend by much improved squads from Stephen F. Austin and UTPA," head coach Greg Harkins said. "We beat SFA in a 4-3 thriller last year, and know they will be looking for some payback. UTPA is playing well at 8-4 with some quality wins. These matches will test us both mentally and physically."
The Ladyjacks (3-4) are coming off of a 5-2 win at home against New Mexico State. Malena Gordo leads the way for SFA with a 4-3 record in singles play, seeing action mainly at the No.2 position.
The Broncs have won three straight and are slated to face Grambling State and Alcorn State before the match on Sunday. UTPA has four players with seven or more wins in singles this season led by Reegan Greenwood with nine.
"UNF is the second nationally ranked team we will have played in the last four matches," Harkins noted. "Hosting a nationally ranked opponent is a great opportunity for us. The Ospreys are defending A-Sun Champions. The difference between winning and losing is sometimes very small. Teams like UNF compete well in pressure situations, and that is where we need improve if we are to grow and break through against nationally ranked competition."
The Ospreys (5-1) have had their last two matches canceled and are 1-0 against teams from the Sun Belt this year defeating Troy 5-2.
"The mood is positive within the squad." Harkins added. "The girls understand what to do and are eager to post some quality results."
Following the three-match homestand, the Cajuns head to Lake Charles, La. on Wednesday at 2 p.m. to face in-state rival McNeese State.
