Louisiana Women’s Tennis Falls In Close Contest To Troy

MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell 4-3 in a closely contested match against conference foe Troy on Saturday at the South Alabama tennis complex.

"Troy came back after dropping the doubles point and proved to be a tough out," head coach Greg Harkins said. "This was a typical conference battle with many ups and downs. Unfortunately, we lost focus at some crucial moments that eventual cost us the match. It's part of growing and maturing as young adults. Putting the little things behind you and competing. Win or lose, that is when you become a better team."

The Ragin' Cajuns (6-12) picked up the doubles point with wins on courts two and three as both courts came down to a tiebreaker. Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement clinched the point pulling out an 8-7 (7-4) victory against Brooke Durden and Lyubov Dorofeeva.

In singles play, the Trojans (11-6) picked up wins at lines 1-4 to clinch the match. Margot De Haan defeated Julie Cremers 6-2, 6-1 to notch the clinching point.

The Cajuns picked up their final two points on courts five and six. Clement bested Monica Gonzalez 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 at the No. 5 position, while Alexandra Way topped Brooke Durden 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) in straight sets on courts six.

Louisiana is back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against South Alabama. Following the match with the Jaguars, the Cajuns head to ULM on Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m.
