Women’s Tennis Falls At South Alabama, 6-1

MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off of a hard fought loss to Troy a day ago, the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell 6-1 to conference foe South Alabama on Sunday at Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

"I give credit to South Alabama," head coach Greg Harkins said. "They are a solid team playing at a high level across their lines. We got beaten by the better team today, but the girls stayed positive which is a step in the right direction."

The Jaguars (11-1) picked up the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.

In singles play, South Alabama posted wins at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions to clinch the match. Mary Angela Martin notched the winning point defeating Juliette Clement, 6-2, 6-1, on court five.

Junior Nelo Phiri recorded the Cajuns only point of the match winning at the No.1 line against USA's Michaela Meszarosova, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).

"Nelo did a great job of pulling out the victory at the No. 1 position," Harkins added. "It was a tremendous effort on her part."

The Cajuns continue their road swing on Friday at 2 p.m. as they head to Monroe, La. to face conference foe ULM.
