Cajuns Men’s Tennis Falls At No. 6 Baylor

WACO, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team saw its three-match win streak come to an end on Friday night after falling to sixth ranked Baylor 7-0 at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

"I hope we can learn from tonight and use it to get better for the season," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Baylor is a great team that competes very well.

"We need to compete better at all seven positions. Tonight we competed well at five of the seven. I was disappointed in two of our singles matches. We cannot have that type of result and fail to figure out how to compete if this team wants to compete at a high level in the future."

The Cajuns (4-2) battled in doubles play with Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola forcing a tiebreak on court three, while Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson were up early on court one, but the Bears (6-0) picked up the point with wins at the No.1 and 2 positions.

"We had chances in doubles tonight but came up short," Jeffrey added. "This team needs someone to step up and take the lead for us to capitalize on these opportunities."

Despite taking two matches to a third set and forcing a second set tiebreak in another, Baylor swept singles competition.

Brothers Jarred and Jake Wynan each came up short in a third set tiebreaker, while senior Rick de Groot put up a good fight falling to the No. 7 player in the nation Patrick Pradella, 6-1, 6-5.

Louisiana returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m. with a tilt at conference foe UT Arlington.

"We look to rebound Sunday against UT Arlington," Jeffrey noted. "I'm looking for us to come out strong and compete at all seven positions at a high level."
