Cajuns Men’s Tennis Corrals Mavericks On Road, 5-2

ARLINGTON, Texas – After a tough loss at sixth ranked Baylor, the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team bounced back with a 5-2 victory over conference opponent UT Arlington on Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.

"I give a lot of credit to our guys," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "They fought through a lot of adversity to get this win. We reached our number one goal today, which was to keep improving the competitiveness of our team."

UTA (3-1) went in front 1-0 clinching the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The duo of Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan picked up the lone doubles victory for the Cajuns (5-2) defeating Marek Pesicka and Sebastian Erimicioiu on court two, 8-4.

"Doubles did not go our way today, but the guys really came out as a team and unified and fought hard together," Jeffrey noted.

Louisiana came out strong in singles winning on five of the six courts. Both Jake Wynan and Damian Farinola notched their team-best fourth win of the season. Wynan bested Danie, Armengol 7-6, 6-1 at the No.3 position, while Farinola gutted out a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision against Carlos Arbiza.

"If we keep this mindset of improving the competiveness of our team it will really help down the road," Jeffrey added. "I was proud of really all the guys in singles because they all fought hard for the win. Jake, Jarred (Wynan), Rick, Hunter (Johnson), and Damian all fought hard for the win. We look forward to another week of improvement."
