Women’s Tennis Splits Doubleheader At Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Louisiana women's tennis team split a doubleheader against Northwestern State and Prairie View A&M on Saturday at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex on the campus of Northwestern State.

The Cajuns (4-6) fell in the opening match of the doubleheader to the Demons (3-3), 6-1, before sweeping the Panthers (2-6), 7-0, in the afternoon contest.

"I am very impressed with the way we bounced back after losing to Northwestern State in the morning," head coach Greg Harkins said. "Our girls stayed strong mentally throughout the day.
We played our best doubles of the year, and that's encouraging going forward."

In the morning match, Louisiana won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Julie Cremers and Alexandra Way clinched the point defeating Aliona Ladutska and Amy Williams 8-4 at the No.3 position.

The Demons swept singles play clinching the match with a win by Kateryna Piatakova on court four.

Louisiana rebounded in the afternoon to not drop a set against Prairie View A&M. Eleanor Bradshaw and Melissa Burckhartt clinched the doubles point on court three with an 8-2 victory.

In singles competition, Way clinched things on court three besting Sydney Thomas in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The Cajuns return to action on March 1 against ETSU in Charleston, S.C. in the first of two matches at the College of Charleston.

"We are coming home for a couple days rest and then we will right back at it," Harkins commented. "We still have a lot of tennis left in the season. We just need to work on getting better each time out on the court."
