LAFAYETTE, La. – Coming off of a road loss at Arkansas State, the Louisiana women's tennis team is set to host a pair of mid-week matches against Texas A&M–Corpus Christi and Southeastern Louisiana at Cajun Courts.
The Cajuns (3-3) open the week with the Islanders on Tuesday at 1 p.m. before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Live scoring and video are available for the Wednesday match.
"We are looking forward to hosting A&M–Corpus Christi and Southeastern this week," head coach Greg Harkins said. "Both of these programs compete year after year at a high level. We played solid doubles this past weekend, and if we can get out in front of these teams with a doubles point we will be in a good position for singles."
The Islanders (4-2) fell to UT Arlington 4-1 last time out ending a three-match win streak. A&M–Corpus Christi is led by Cella Rodriguez with a 5-1 record in singles, while the doubles team of Sandra Burges and Judit Vives is undefeated on the season at 3-0. The Islanders won a 6-1 decision against the Cajuns a year ago.
"Coach Steve Moore always has a solid crew and last season were ranked in the top 75," Harkins added. "We will have to be consistent through out the line-up if we are to challenge his squad. Last season's match was extremely close. We hope to get the upper hand this year with home court advantage."
The Lions (2-1) defeated Southern Miss 4-3 over the weekend and are led by Valya Rusakova with a 2-1 record in singles play at the No.4 position. Southeastern Louisiana defeated the Cajuns 5-2 in the last meeting between the two teams.
"Southeastern comes to us as last year's regular season Southland Conference Champion," Harkins noted. "Coach Jason Hayes has a record of success and we expect nothing less from his crew for this match."
Admission to both matches is free. For more info follow the team on twitter @CajunW10ns.
