Islanders Blank Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Tennis, 4-0

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana women's tennis team saw its bid at an undefeated home season come to an end on Tuesday dropping a 4-0 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Cajun Courts.

"We had a very tough fight today against a very good squad from A&M-Corpus Christi," head coach Greg Harkins said. "The doubles point was closely contested with lines one and two coming down to the wire. I was really encouraged by the play of Nelo Phiri and Nicole Breaux. They had a good win in doubles, and each competed well in singles although they didn't get a result. Across the board we need to compete better in singles. If we bring the same kind of intensity and toughness tomorrow then we will have a good shot against Southeastern Louisiana."

The Cajuns (3-4) were edged out by the Islanders (5-2) in doubles, with the point being decided on court two. The team of Sandra Burges and Judit Vives clinched the point for A&M-Corpus Christi defeating Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement, 8-6. Nelo Phiri and Nicole Breaux had the lone doubles win for Louisiana besting the duo of Stefania Nicolae and Kerry Galhos on court one, 8-6.

The Islanders swept singles play clinching the match on court three as Celia Rodriguez defeated Alexandra Way, 6-3, 6-3.

Louisiana is back in action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match against Southeastern Louisiana at Cajun Courts. Admission to the match is free and live scoring and video is available on RaginCajuns.com.

The Cajuns are slated to close out the week with a pair of matches in Natchitoches, La. on Saturday against Northwestern State and Prairie View A&M.
