Louisiana Women’s Tennis Falls At Arkansas State, 4-2

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team fell to conference foe Arkansas State 4-2 on the road Saturday afternoon at Allen Park.

"We competed well in parts today," head coach Greg Harkins said. "The team started strong securing the doubles point. Our level of play dropped in singles which gave the momentum to Arkansas State. That led to the Red Wolves running away with the victory. We give them credit for coming back to win the match."

The Cajuns (3-3) picked up the doubles point with wins by Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement on court two and Alexandra Way and Julie Cremers on court three.

In singles competition, Cremers gave Louisiana a 2-0 advantage after defeating Chiara Stefanov 6-2, 6-2 at the No.5 position.

The Red Wolves (1-1) came roaring back winning the next four singles matches. Jess Heeps-Eriksen clinched the match for ASU outlasting Eleanor Bradshaw in a 6-4, 6-4 decision.

Louisiana returns home for a pair of matches at Cajun Courts next week starting with a 1 p.m. match on Tuesday against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The Cajuns then host Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before heading to Natchitoches, La. for a pair of contests on Saturday, Feb. 22.

"We will continue to work on improving our mental and physical toughness," Harkins stated. "There won't be a lot of time to worry about the loss. We have two tough matches on Tuesday and Wednesday with Corpus Christi and Southeastern."
