FOR STARTERS
Louisiana will open up the neutral-site portion of the MGM Grand Main Event on Monday when they take on Milwaukee for the first time in program history. The Ragin' Cajuns will be trying to even up their record after dropping decisions on the road last week at Tulsa and Auburn.
UL and Milwaukee will be joined by Tuesday's opponent, Oral Roberts to complete the Middleweight Bracket of the Main Event. Meanwhile, the Heavyweight Bracket is composed of Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Auburn.
THE LAST TIME OUTThe Auburn Tigers hit 11 threes and outscored the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 60-42 in the second half on their way to a 105-80 win on Friday night at Auburn Arena.
Â
Louisiana put five players in double figures, led by Brian Williams' 18 points and seven rebounds. But the Cajuns were just 3-of-15 from three-point range and surrendered 20 turnovers to the Tigers, who were led by KT Harrell's 24 points.
Â
Jay Wright, Johnathan Stove and Bryce Washington all had 11 points off the bench, with Wright's coming all in the first half. Xavian Rimmer also finished with 10 points for the Cajuns.
Â
That output helped lead UL to a 42-18 advantage in bench points, but the Tigers had five players in double figures of their own, including three – Harrell, Tahj Shamsid-Deen (21), Cinmeon Bowers (20) – to put in at least 20 points.
UP NEXT
The Ragin' Cajuns will take on Oral Roberts on Tuesday to conclude the Main Event, marking the final game played outside of the state of Louisiana for the Cajuns until Dec. 30 at UALR. Louisiana will next take on Jackson State on Dec. 3 at home to begin a stretch of four out of five games played at the Cajundome.Â
• The Cajuns are 6-5 in neutral-site games under head coach Bob Marlin, going 4-1 in neutral-site games one season ago.
• Devonta Walker's 20 points in the season opener against Louisiana College made him the first Ragin' Cajun to score 20 points in his UL debut since Tiras Wade scored 20 vs Louisiana Tech to open the 2004-05 season.
• The Cajuns got 42 bench points on Friday at Auburn, accounting for 52.5 percent of its scoring.
• The Cajuns were led by Shawn Long's 15 points against the Golden Hurricane, snapping a 17-game streak of having at least one 20-point scorer.
