Louisiana Men’s Tennis Opens Home Slate With Doubleheader

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is set to open its home slate on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. with a dual match against Lamar at Cajun Courts.

Louisiana (2-1) will close out the doubleheader at 2 p.m. against Jackson State (0-4). The match is part of a men's and women's co-match against the Tigers.

"I'm looking forward to this weekend," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "It will be interesting to see how the guys respond. Lamar has a much-improved team so we are looking for a great match against the Cardinals.

"Jackson State also has made some improvements on last years team. Coach Pennington has the team headed in the right direction so we expect another great battle in the afternoon. Having doubleheader matches like we have Saturday will prepare you for tournaments like the HEB championships where we will play two matches in one day."

Admission to the contest is free and the match is sponsored by Johnathon Landreth. There will be free gumbo for the first 100 fans starting at noon during the Lamar match. Fans unable to attend can watch the feature court live on RaginCajuns.com for the Lamar match only. There will also be live scoring available for the Lamar match.

The Cajuns are 24-7 all-time against the Cardinals (2-1) with the last meeting coming a year ago with a 7-0 sweep of Lamar. The Cardinals come into the contest having won two matches against Alcorn State after suffering a 6-1 defeat at No. 12 Texas A&M.

Jackson State is scheduled to face New Orleans on Friday afternoon before facing the Ragin' Cajuns. The match will be only the second meeting between the two schools with Louisiana winning the lone contest a year ago.
