Cajuns Sweep Broncs To Close Out Road Trip

EDINBURG, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team closed out a three-match season-opening road swing on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Texas-Pan American at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

"The guys had fun battling today," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "At this point of the season it's about getting matches and working on corrections during the week. Every person battled hard today, and it was a good team win. I felt like all of the guys really supported each other.

"I thought assistant coach Luc Godin did a great job with the guys on the courts, and Jarred Wynan was able to come back after getting behind early. Jake Wynan played well today. He was the man of the match."

Louisiana (2-1) clinched the doubles point winning on courts one and two. Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan defeated the duo of Sebastien Job and Alejandro Sanoja on court one, 6-4, while Damian Farinola and Edgar Lopez won against Mauricio Fosado and Ivar Aramburu on court two, 6-2.

The Cajuns swept singles competition with four of the six matches decided in straight sets. Sophomore Jake Wynan gave up just four games on the day defeating Ricardo Hopker, 6-2, 6-2, at the No.4 position.

Senior Rick de Groot picked up his 27th career dual match singles win against Juan Cruz Soria on court one, 6-5, 6-5.

Lopez and Will Huyton also had strong showings as Lopez bested Job, 6-3, 6-4, at No.2 and Huyton picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Joseph Bishop on court six.

On court five, junior Jarred Wynan battled back to defeat Alejandro Sanoja, 3-6, 6-3, 6-5, in a hard fought match.

The squad opens it home slate on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a doubleheader at Cajun Courts against Lamar and Jackson State starting at 10 a.m.
