Ragin' Cajuns look to build off strong showing in Mobile

LAFAYETTE – The Ragin' Cajun cross country team competes in its third meet of the season on Saturday when it travels to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.
The women's college 5K race will start at 8:45 a.m. with the men's race slated to begin at 9:15. Joining Louisiana and host McNeese State in the meet are Central Arkansas, LSU, Louisiana Tech (men's team), Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Southern-New Orleans and Tulane.
The Ragin' Cajuns last competed on Sept. 14 at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile, Ala., where the men finished second overall with the women's team placing third.
Freshman Logan Pearce (24:55.5), who finished second overall in the 8K race, and Corbett Ourso (25:28.3) posted the top times for the Ragin' Cajuns on the men's side. On the women's side, Anna Katherine Devitt (21:58.0) finished eighth overall while Claire Hodges (22:08.0) placed 10th.
The meet at McNeese State is the second for Louisiana, which competed in the season-opening McNeese State Relays on Aug. 30. Pearce, in his collegiate debut for the Ragin' Cajuns, covered his part of the 6K course in 9:19. Devitt led the Ragin' Cajuns on the women's side, covering her part of the course in 11:29.
After competing at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede, Louisiana will return to action on Oct. 11 when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the FSU Invitational.
