LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana men's and women's cross country team will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) when they travel to Mobile, Ala., to compete in the 39th annual Azalea City Classic at the Mobile County Fairgrounds.

Action begins with the men's 8-kilometer race at 7:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 8:15. Louisiana will join host South Alabama and Troy among Sun Belt Conference schools entered in the 10-team meet. Also scheduled to compete are Alabama State, Millsaps, Mobile, New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulane, UAB and William Carey.

"First and foremost, we want to be in the top three and I think both of these teams have that talent," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "As long as we can use these meets to get a little more seasoned and learn how to compete, I think we can be in the upper half on both sides."

Louisiana opened its season on Aug. 30 in the McNeese State Relays, competing against regionally-ranked opponents McNeese State and Lamar. Freshman Logan Pearce turned in Louisiana's top time on the men's side with Anna Katherine Devitt pacing the Ragin' Cajuns on the women's side.

After competing in its first full-scale event, the Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Sept. 28 (Saturday) when it returns to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede.
