MIAMI – Multiple runs scored in each of the first four innings and eight consecutive scoreless innings pitched by Cody Boutte was the winning formula for the Ragin' Cajuns baseball team as they evened the weekend series with FIU with a 9-1 victory here Saturday afternoon at FIU Baseball Stadium.

Louisiana (30-14, 11-9 Sun Belt) needed only four innings to lay claim to a 9-0 advantage. Boutte was one out shy of a shutout as the Panthers (23-18, 11-9 Sun Belt) scored in their second-to-last at bat of the game.

The Cajuns, who bounced back from a 7-6 defeat in 11 innings on Friday, set up the rubber game with FIU which is set for 9 a.m. (CDT). Louisiana seeks its first series win over FIU since 2007.

Dex Kjerstad posted a game-high three hits for his 19th multiple-hit game of the season. Dylan Butler (two-run home run) and Caleb Adams (two-run double) led the way with two RBI apiece.

Boutte registered six hitless frames on the way to collecting his team-leading seventh victory. Boutte, moved up from an expected Sunday start, started on Saturday for the first time since the Southern Miss series (March 9).

In handing FIU starter Mike Franco his second defeat, the Ragin' Cajuns piled up six runs in 2 1/3 innings off the Panthers' right-handed hurler.

The victory was the Cajuns' 30th of 2013 giving the program at least 30 wins for the 14th time in 19 seasons under Tony Robichaux.

Two-out hitting carried UL into the lead in the first inning. After FIU turned a double play, Tyler Girouard singled to center and advanced to third on a two-base error. Girouard would score the game's first run on a Franco wild pitch and Blake Trahan plated Harrison with a single to left center for a 2-0 lead.

Boutte settled in during his first inning of work as he retired the Panthers in order. The offense buried FIU in the next three at bats.

A run-scoring single by Kjerstad and run-scoring double from Ryan Leonards stretched the lead to 4-0 in the second inning. It was 7-0 in favor of the Cajuns following home runs by Butler and Jace Conrad in the third inning.

A leadoff double by Tyler Girouard and subsequent single by Seth Harrison set up the final two runs for UL that crossed on an Adams double down the left field line.

While the Cajuns were building their lead, Boutte held FIU hitless from the third through sixth inning.

A pair of walks in the ninth inning would spoil the shutout as Roche Woodard later doubled in the inning to drive home the lone tally of the game for the Panthers.

Boutte pitched a complete game for the second straight start and landed his first nine-inning complete game in a Cajuns uniform.

A day after finishing a combined 2-for-18, the Ragin' Cajuns 1-2-3-4 hitters were a collective 8-for-18. Louisiana forced FIU to use five relief pitchers to complete the game.
