Golf Set To Open 2013 Sun Belt Championship

MUSCLE SCHOALS, Ala. – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to tee off in the first round of the 2013 Sun Belt Golf Championship on Monday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
The 54-hole tournament starts at 8 a.m. on Monday with teams starting off of holes one and ten on The Shoals' Fighting Joe course. Louisiana is slated to start at 8:45 a.m. paired with Middle Tennessee and North Texas.
“I think the key for this week is going to pretty simple,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “The guys are going to need to enjoy themselves and not let their emotions take over. You are going to have bad shots on a tough course like this, and our guys can't let it get the best of them if we want to win. Hopefully we can go out and enjoy each round and represent our university with pride.”
The second round is scheduled to start on Tuesday morning, while the third and final round of the 2013 Sun Belt Golf Championship will start on Wednesday morning. The field includes two teams ranked in the Golf Stat top 50 in No.38 North Texas and No.49 South Alabama.
The Ragin' Cajuns will be anchored by seniors Brandt Garon, Yohann Vora and Ethan Savoy at the Sun Belt Golf Championship. Brandt paces the Cajuns with three career top 10 finishes. The Baton Rouge, La. native finished third at the SBC Championship a year ago posting a score of two-over to earn All-Sun Belt honors.
“It's amazing how fast a college career goes by,” Sliman added. “This could end up being their last college tournament. I know they are going to fight to make sure that its not their last tournament. I can't be more proud of the way these guys have grown in their time here at UL.”
Freshmen Ross Davis and Thomas Strandemo round out the line up for the Cajuns. Davis joins Garon as the only other Ragin' Cajuns golfer to post a top 10 finish this season placing sixth at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
