LAFAYETTE, La. – After starting its current three-match homestand with a sweep of Jackson State, the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is slated to close out the regular season at Cajun Courts this weekend with matches against Southern Miss and UT-Pan American.

The Southern Miss contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, while the Ragin' Cajuns will face the Broncs at 1 p.m. on Sunday to close out the regular season.

“The guys are looking forward to finishing up the season at home,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “We play two very good teams and expect some great tennis this weekend.”

Louisiana (12-11) has won two of its last three contests including sweeps of UTPA and the Tigers. The Cajuns have four players with double-digit wins this spring in singles lead by junior Rick de Groot at the No.1 position as he boasts a 12-9 record.

The Ragin' Cajuns have been strong in doubles competition holding a 38-18 overall record with the team of Hunter and Yates Johnson and the duo of Jake Wynan and de Groot each posting double-digit wins this season.

“I will be interested to see how our singles players respond this weekend,” Jeffrey added. “This will be a nice prelude for conference. Southern Miss just narrowly lost to Middle Tennessee, so we will look forward to that match.”

The Golden Eagles (15-9) came up short in a 4-3 decision against the Blue Raiders after defeating Belmont 4-0 and Marquette 6-1. Southern Miss is paced by Matt Frost and Andrew Goodwin. Frost is 14-8 playing at No.1, while Goodwin has a team-best 16 wins at No.2.

UTPA (7-14) has matches against Lamar and Alcorn State on Friday and Saturday before facing the Cajuns. Victor Alves and Thomas Panoulas each lead the squad with eight wins in singles play.

Admission to the matches is free. For those who can't make it out to Cajun Courts, follow the match online with live stats and video on RaginCajuns.com.

After the matches this weekend, the Cajuns will host the Sun Belt Conference Championship from April 18-21 at Cajun Courts. For info and updates on men's tennis follow the team on twitter @CajunMensTennis.
