LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns notched their second straight sweep taking down a very good Southern Miss squad 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cajun Courts to move to 7-1 at home this season.

“We came out ready to play from the get go,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “It was a complete team effort with everyone contributing to the win. I'm very proud of the guys.”

Louisiana (13-11) took the doubles point winning on courts one and two. Twins Hunter and Yates Johnson drew first blood defeating Benjamin Feldmann and Vasco Valverde 8-5 at No.2.

Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan clinched the point for the Ragin' Cajuns on court one topping the team of Andrew Goodwin and Matt Frost, 8-4.

The Cajuns carried the momentum over into singles competition as they claimed the first set on five of the six courts against the Golden Eagles (15-10).

Sophomore Jarred Wynan made quick work of Inaki Belloso at the No.6 position notching a 6-2, 6-0 victory to increase the Louisiana advantage to 2-0.

Shortly after, brother Jake Wynan defeated Feldmann 6-4, 6-1 to pull the Ragin' Cajuns one point away from clinching the match. The win gives Wynan nine on the spring as he needs just one more to become the fifth Cajun to post double digit wins this season.

On court five, Hunter Johnson clinched the match besting Juan Escobar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to pick up his 12 victory of the season.

Louisiana added points on courts one and three as de Groot out battled Frost at No.1 7-6 (8), 6-3, while Damian Farinola continued his hot play with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No.3.

Freshman Edgar Lopez completed the white wash as he overcame a first set defeat to win in a super-tiebreaker against Goodwin, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5).

The Cajuns are back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. against UT-Pan American. The match was moved up from 1 p.m. due to impending weather. The match is the last regular season match for Louisiana as Frankie Hoar will play his last match in vermillion and white.
