HAMMOND, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team is set to close out the 2013 spring season on Friday at 6 p.m. as Louisiana heads to in-state rival Southeastern La. for a dual match.
“We look forward to the final season match vs. Southeastern,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “Coach Hayes has done a tremendous job with this year's squad. They have already clinched a share of the regular season Southland conference title. A tough match against the Lions will be warm-up for what we expect to see next week during SBC Conference Championships here at the Cajun Courts.”
Louisiana (13-10) has won its last three contests away from Cajun Courts including a tight 4-3 decision against Middle Tennessee. Recently, the Ragin' Cajuns are 3-2 in their last five contests including wins over Samford and Arkansas State.
The Cajuns are led by junior Sandra Ahlqvist who has a team-best 13-7 record in singles competition. She is currently on a three-match win streak. In doubles, freshmen Juliette Clement and Melissa Burckhartt pace the squad with a 14-3 mark.
“The journey and learning process never stops for us and the program,” These last few weeks we reviewed our team goals and worked to make sure that we have and will continue to grow as a team and individuals. It's going to be fun and exciting; these matches really test us mentally and physically.”
After the Southeastern La. match, Louisiana heads home for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which will be hosted this year at Cajun Courts from April 18-21. For info and updates on women's tennis follow the squad on twitter @CajunW10ns.
