Cajuns Drop 5-2 Decision To Southeastern La.

HAMMOND, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against Southeastern La.on Friday night at the Southeastern Tennis Complex to close out the regular season.

“It was a good fight today, but unfortunately we ran into a very good Southeastern team,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “They are riding a massive wave of momentum at 18-2 and having clinched for their conference championship. I'm proud of the way the girls battled. This has been a good season and we hope to keep it going at the conference tournament.”

Louisiana (13-11) grabbed the doubles point from the Lions (18-2) winning at positions one and three. Freshman Melissa Burckharrt and Juliette Clement topped Valya Rusakova and Nastya Tokareva 8-6 on court one, while Sophie van den Aarssen and Eleanor Bradshaw defeated Isabel Brito and Reginka Nychytailova 8-6 on court six.

“Once we had clinched the doubles point I felt like we had gotten some good momentum, but Southeastern was able to capitalize on the back end and that was the difference,” Harkins added.

Despite claiming the first set on three of the six singles matches, the Cajuns only came away with one point as van den Aarssen was the only UL player to break through notching a 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Tokareva at No.1.

Burckharrt came up on the wrong end of a thee set match on court two against Nychytailova, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Clement also couldn't break through in the third set as she fell to Morgane Charpenne at No.5, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
