ULM Upends Cajuns In Tight 4-3 Contest

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team came up on the short end of another 4-3 decision on Friday against UL-Monroe at Cajun Courts. With the result, Louisiana has now played in four consecutive 4-3 matches.

“I'm really proud of the team for competing today,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “You hate to lose a match, but we learned a lot today. What's important is that we win and lose as a team. There was a lot of fight in our girls against a very good ULM team. Monroe has been at the top of the conference for the last few years and we were right there with them.”

The Warhawks (10-1) earned the doubles point after sweeping all three courts to take a 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Cajuns would storm back to take a 3-1 advantage. Freshman Melissa Burckhartt picked up the first point for UL as she was victorious on court four, 6-2, 6-3.

Sophie van den Aarssen put the Ragin' Cajuns in front when she defeated Sophie Rufyikiri 6-2, 6-2 at the No.1 position.

On court five, Bailey VanDyke won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 against Ema Turudija to give the Cajuns a 3-1 lead.

ULM went on to claim the last three points of the match to get the come-from-behind win.

Louisiana continues the nine-match homestand on Sunday at 2 p.m. when the Cajuns host conference foe North Texas at Cajun Courts. Admission to the contest is free.
