North Texas Sweeps Women’s Tennis, 4-0

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns dropped a 4-0 decision to the defending Sun Belt Champion North Texas on Sunday at Cajun Courts.

“That was one of the toughest teams we have played all season long,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “This match definitely challenged us, but we learn from these experiences. We competed well, but they are a very strong and experienced team and that played a big difference today. Hopefully this will help us realize where we need to go over the next four to five weeks as we near the conference tournament.”

North Texas (10-4) grabbed the doubles point winning on courts one and three to take a 1-0 lead over Louisiana (10-8).

In singles play, Kseniya Bardabush defeated Sophie van den Aarssen 6-2, 6-0 at the No.1 position to increase the Mean Green advantage to 2-0.

North Texas pulled within a point from clinching the match on court three as Sandra Ahlqvist fell to Valentina Starkova, 6-1, 6-3.

Barbora Vykydalova clinched the match at No.2 singles besting freshman Nicole Breaux 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets.

The Ragin' Cajuns continue their nine-match homestand on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they host Samford at Cajun Courts.

“Samford is a good team that is well coached.” Harkins added. “This is going to be another good challenge for the girls as continue our home stretch.”
