LAFAYETTE, La. – Riding a four-match win streak, the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team will face New Orleans and McNeese State in a doubleheader Friday at Cajun Courts.

“We are looking forward to this weekend as we continue to improve as a team,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “We are facing a pair of in-state rivals that will certainly bring their best. The back-to-back doubleheader will test the girls, but it will make us mentally and physically stronger.”

The Cajuns are slated to face the Privateers at 9 a.m., while the Cowgirls come to town at 3 p.m. Admission to both matches is free. Live stats and video will be available on RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana comes into the match having won four straight matches including three at Cajun Courts. The streak started with a hard fought 4-3 win on the road at Stephen F. Austin.

Freshman Nicole Breaux leads the squad with a 5-4 singles record this spring including a four-match win streak, while Sophie van den Aarssen, Melissa Burckhartt and Sandra Ahlqvist each have posted four wins in match play.

New Orleans (1-6) enters the contest on a three-match skid having lost to No.56 Tulane 4-0, McNeese State 4-3 and South Alabama 5-2. The Privateers are paced by freshman Soledad Calderon who has a 4-2 singles record this spring.

McNeese State (7-3) has won four of its last five contests with the only loss during that stretch coming at No.50 LSU, 6-1. The Cowgirls picked up wins at Xavier (La.) 6-3 and New Orleans 4-3 last weekend. Klaudia Gawlik is a perfect 10-0 at the No.1 position for the Cowgirls.

The Lafayette Ladies Tennis League (LLTL) will be honored at the McNeese State match.

“The Lafayette Ladies Tennis League is a tremendous supporter of the program,” head coach Greg Harkins stated. “I know we will see many of the members out here tomorrow to cheer on the team.”

After the Friday doubleheader, the Ragin' Cajuns will play host to in-state rival Northwestern State on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out six-match homestand at Cajun Courts.
