JONESBORO, Ark. – The Ragin' Cajuns soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback against Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference match on the road at the ASU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
“We struggled offensively today,” head coach Scot Wieland said. “We gave up two early goals and chased the game. When you do that on the road it's difficult to recover. ASU kept up the defensive pressure and we didn't pull the trigger enough to get the result today. We'll keep working hard this week and get ready for next weekend.”
Arkansas State (8-5-0, 2-2-0 SBC) got an early goal from sophomore midfielder Jena Kelley in the ninth minute of the first half to spark the home team. Shortly after, the Red Wolves struck again in the 21st minute as sophomore Christina Fink added a goal of her own to give ASU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Louisiana (7-6-0, 1-2-0 SBC) was outshot 4-15 in the match by Arkansas State even though the Cajuns held a 4-2 advantage in corners.
Despite giving up two goals, senior keeper Amanda Moorefield played solid as she recorded seven saves and spoiled many opportunities for Arkansas State. Moorefield hiked her saves total to 49 on the season.
The Ragin' Cajuns return to the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility this Friday and Sunday as they host Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee in two Sun Belt Conference games.
