LAFAYETTE, La. - After posting the top team GPA in the spring at the University of Louisiana, the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team was named one of 105 programs to earn the ITA All-Academic Team distinction, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Wednesday.

“This is a great honor for the girls as they put a lot of effort into being a complete student-athlete,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “I'm proud of the team for setting the standard here at UL and leading the way for the athletic department.”

The women's tennis team posted back-to-back GPAs above a 3.25 during the 2011-12 academic year with a 3.44 GPA in the fall and a 3.37 GPA in the spring.

“It's not easy to be an athlete and to have the full load of academics our student-athletes have,” Harkins added. “These girls not only accepted the challenge, but thrived in the classroom.”

Erin Wilbert, Milou Israel and Sandra Ahlqvist received individual recognition. The group was named to the ITA Scholar Athlete list for posting a 3.5 GPA during the 2011-12 season.
