Cajuns To Face USA In SBC Tennis Championships First Round

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team will face sixth seeded South Alabama in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete for a conference championship,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “We are familiar with the teams as we have played four of the top six seeds in the tournament. It will help that we have faced our opponent already this year. South Alabama is a good team, and we have to come out and play strong to move on in the tournament.”

The match is set for 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 19 with the winner moving on to face third seeded Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The SBC Tennis Championships runs from April 19-22. The championship match is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Cajuns (4-15) are 0-4 in matches against teams from the Sun Belt, but played South Alabama, Denver and La.-Monroe tough.

Senior Milou Israel leads the squad with a 10-9 record in singles play, while Sophie van den Aarssen and Erin Wilbert are second on the squad with eight wins.
