Women’s Tennis Falls in First Round of SBC Championships

DENTON, Texas - The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team saw the 2011-12 season come to an end on Thursday as UL fell to South Alabama 4-0 in the first round of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships.

“It was an honor to play at the conference championships and represent the university,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “The girls competed to the best of their ability. I give a lot of credit to South Alabama and coach Keyser. Now it's time for the program to start looking forward to next year.”

The Jaguars took an early 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point. USA picked up wins on both courts two and three.

In singles, South Alabama claimed three straight points to clinch the match. Alina Volman defeated Milou Israel 6-1, 6-3 at No.1, while Erin Wilbert fell to Ramona Ghermani in straight sets at No.2.

Emily Newton notched the final point for the Jaguars on court four as senior Tara Vasovic was defeated 6-3, 6-0.
