No.67 Cajuns Top Southern Miss To Close Out Regular Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The 67^th ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team rebounded with a 4-3 dual match win over Southern Miss at the USM Tennis Center in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Sunday.

“This was a tough weekend due to injuries and players not being able to play at full strength, head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “We look to get healthy this week as we head conference. Hopefully we will be ready to go at full strength come the conference tournament on Thursday.”

Despite a win in doubles on court two by Yanick Mandl and Brandon Farine, the Cajuns (14-7) dropped the doubles point as Juan Escobar and Brad Marriott defeated Jarred Wynan and Damian Farinola 8-3 at No.3 doubles.

UL had a good showing from the top of the lineup in singles play against the Golden Eagles. Rick DeGroot was first to come off of the court with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Matt Frost on court one.

After USM went back in front 2-1 with a win at No.5, Mandl pulled the match even defeating Inaki Belloso 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 on court three.

Senior Carlin Murray gave the Cajuns a 3-2 edge after his 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No.2 singles.

Louisiana clinched the match on court four as Ted Nilsson recorded a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Juan Escobar.

The Cajuns return to action at the Sun Belt Tennis Championship on April 19 in Denton, Texas.
