NAMPA, Idaho – Albert Fournette and Chris Roy were the first of three Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field athletes to take part in the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships which began on Friday, March 9 at Boise State's Jackson Track at the Idaho Center.
Fournette claimed a 12th-place finish in the men's shot put with a toss of 18.62m/61-1 ¼. The New Orleans native was only one foot shy of finishing in the Top 8 which would have garnered him first team All-American honors.
Fournette capped off his indoor season with a toss of 60-plus feet for the fourth straight meet.
Chris Roy, making his second career appearance at indoor nationals (appeared in 2010), came in 15th in the men's pole vault. The Breaux Bridge, La., native recorded a height of 5.30m/17-4 ½.
Roy's clearance on Friday was his second-best vault of the 2012 indoor season, trailing only his school-record 5.38m/17-7 ¾ at the LSU Twilight on Feb. 17.
