Louisiana's Lyon Earns SBC Weekly Honors For Second Time

Senior distance runner breaks second, 43-year-old record at Howie Ryan Invitational
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana senior distance runner Henry Lyon earned Sun Belt Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks on Wednesday after another record-breaking performance, in a release by the league office.

Lyon, who joined teammate Isabelle Russell in earning SBC Indoor Track honors on February 4, broke his second, 43-year-old record in as many events after clocking a time of 4:05.30 in the 1-mile run to finish first overall at the Howie Ryan Invitational.

The East Carolina transfer eclipsed the previous record (4:05.49) set by Ian Wilkerson in 1983.

Making his debut in the men's 3,000 meters last month at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational, Lyon broke Wilkerson's record (8:02.08) after posting a time of 8:01.28 leading Louisiana to a 1-2-3 finish in the event.

Louisiana, the reigning Sun Belt Conference champion in men's indoor, will look to defend its title beginning on Monday (Feb. 24) when it opens competition at the SBC Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

The two-day meet will be available on ESPN+.
