Cajuns Fall to Roadrunners In UTSA Classic Finale

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team dropped its final game of the UTSA Classic falling to UTSA 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

Freshman starter Austin Robichaux was tabbed with the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work, while UTSA starter Michael Kraft improved to 2-1 limiting UL to one run on three hits in 6.0 innings.

UTSA (8-4) outhit the Cajuns (6-5) 10-7 in the contest. Dylan Butler led the way offensively for UL going 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Logan Preston was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored a run.

Sophomore Chase Compton saw his team-leading nine-game hit streak come to an end as he went hitless for the first time since the season opener.

For the first time on the weekend the Cajuns took an early lead when Butler singled in Preston from second base with two outs.

The Roadrunners captured the lead from the Ragin' Cajuns in the bottom of the third after RBI singles by John Welborn and Daniel Rockett to make the score 2-1.

Robichaux avoided a UTSA rally in the bottom of the fourth as Jace Conrad made a nice play up the middle with two outs and runners at second and third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, UTSA chased Robichaux after singles by Rockett and Casey Selsor with one out. Later in the inning, Ryan Dalton singled to right with the bases loaded scoring Rockett and Selsor to increase the Roadrunners lead to 4-1.

Butler picked up his second RBI of the day in the top of the seventh when he sent his third home run of the season over the fence in left to bring the Cajuns within two runs.

UTSA would get the run back in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to center by Mike Warren to make the final 5-2.

Matt Sims picked up his third save of the season for the Roadrunners throwing a scoreless ninth inning for UTSA.

The Cajuns return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they host Houston in a non-conference matchup at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
