Men's Tennis Set for Pivotal Week

2/27/2012 5:15:00 PM | Men's Tennis

The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team recently was invited to the 46th Annual HEB Tournament of Champions hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi head coach Mark Jeffrey announced Monday. The tournament is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 2-3.

UL also has two home matches this week as the Cajuns play host to Alcorn State and No.7 Kentucky. It will be the first time that Louisiana has hosted a top 10 team in the last 20 years.

The Cajuns are slated face the Braves at 2 p.m. Tuesday in a co-dual match with the women's tennis team at Cajun Courts, while the showdown with the nationally ranked Wildcats is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

After facing both Alcorn State and Kentucky, UL will then depart for the eight team tournament in Corpus Christi. The HEB Tournament of Champions is a compass draw whereby the winners move up to the winners brackets and losers go on to the losers brackets.

"This tournament will give our guys an opportunity to play against some nationally
ranked teams which will in turn help our ITA ranking,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “This will enable us to potentially gain a higher seed at the Sun Belt Conference Championships"

Joining the Cajuns in the field at the HEB Tournament of Champions are No.55 New Mexico, No. 74 South Alabama, No. 75 DePaul, Oklahoma State, Middle Tennessee, Western Michigan and host Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
