Box Score

The Ragin' Cajuns baseball team could not overcome a five-run fourth for Southeastern La. as the Cajuns dropped a 6-5 decision to the Lions Wednesday night at Alumni Field in Hammond, La.

Caleb Kellogg was tabbed with his first loss of the year despite only giving up three unearned runs in 3.1 innings with five strikeouts.

The Cajuns (1-3) outhit the Lions (4-0) 8-5 in the contest led by Ryan Leonards who was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and scored two runs. Chase Compton and Jace Conrad both had two hits on the night.

Compton gave the Cajuns a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as his single to center scored Leonards from third with two outs. Leonards got into scoring position after leading off the inning with a double.

The Lions exploded for five runs without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the fourth. Four walks and four UL errors fueled the big inning for Southeastern La.

The Cajuns closed the gap in the top of the fifth scoring two runs to make the score 5-3. Daniel Nichols doubled in Leonards from first with one out. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Nichols came in to score on a ball hit to third by Michael Strentz.

UL and Southeastern La. traded runs in the sixth. Conrad came in to score on a Leonards sacrifice fly to center, but the Lions answered on a sac fly by Harry Slade to maintain a two run lead at 6-4.

Strentz pulled the Cajuns back within a run in the top of the seventh driving in Compton from third.

The Cajuns had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the ninth when pinch runner Brian Bowman stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by SLU catcher Jacob Fisher with just one out. The Lions' closer Stefan Lopez avoided extra inning though as he struck out Almann Snowden and then induced a ground ball to third by Compton to end the contest.

UL will return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. as they host Towson in the first of three games at M.L. “Tigue” Moore field over the weekend.
